The transition into winter is never a gradual one. If you’re not from “The North”, it’s kind of like being reluctantly pushed into a cold pool as a kid. And in this case, Mother Nature is the one doing the pushing and the pool is 6 months of winter.
However, just like the pool, once the shock of the push wears off you have to admit it’s kind of nice in there.
You know, maybe that why I always make a point to get outside after the first snowfall of the year. It’s my way of wading in under my own volition.
So, today, as I’ve done for the last couple of years, I made my way to Pope Farm Conservancy in Middleton, WI. Blanketed under 6″ of pristine snow the former farm was wide open and extremely quiet. Plus, it isn’t too far from a good latte and a great breakfast sandwich from Barriques.
Hey, nobody said I had to stay in the pool forever, right?
